SPAR Proteas beat Trinidad and Tobago

Kuilsrivier.  An inspired spirit saw the Spar South African netball team to a relatively comfortable victory in their first of three matches against Trinidad & Tobago at the Western Cape Sport School on Tuesday night.
The Proteas beat their Caribbean rivals by 57-38 despite a lacklustre third quarter in which they conceded 10 goals and scored only six. While this period brought roars of disapproval from the crowd, it might well prove to be the most important phase of the match, as it showed the coaching staff which combinations to avoid and which players they can’t count on going forward.

SPAR Proteas take on Trinidad and Tobago

- Fresh from their victory in the Tri-nations series against Singapore and
Botswana last weekend, the SPAR South African National Netball Team will play a three-match Test series against Trinidad and Tobago in Cape Town this week.
 
The series forms part of the Proteas’ preparations for the World Championships, and will give the coaching panel another chance to work on game plans and test different combinations.

SPAR Proteas victorius in Tri-Nations

The Spar national netball team met their first objective of 2011 when they beat Botswana in the final of their Tri-Nations tournament outside Gaborone today.

The Proteas walked away with the trophy after beating Botswana by 56-36. Despite the victory margin being smaller than that of Saturday’s encounter with their host (which the Proteas won by 55-34), they played netball of a much higher quality and proved that they are on track for the World Championship in July in Singapore.

SPAR Proteas beat Singapore to advance to Tri-Nations Final

The Spar national netball team gave themselves a jolt of confidence with a magnificent second half performance against Singapore, to progress to the final of the Tri-Nations series in Botswana.
The Proteas recovered from a lacklustre first half to beat Singapore by 62-32, a massive turnaround after only leading by 24-18 at the start of halftime.

Go Green and Gold and support SA Netball

South Africa - South Africans from all walks of life donned football shirts last year, in support of the Fifa World Cup and Bafana Bafana on what came to be known as Football Fridays. Earlier this year, they put on cricket shirts to show support for the Proteas cricket team at the ICC World Cup in the sub-continent.

Proteas Netball captain to gain experience in New Zealand

South Africa - Netball South Africa (NSA) says it will not stand in the way of the captain of the SPAR National Netball team, Amanda Mynhardt, if she wishes to go to New Zealand to gain experience, as long as she follows the correct procedures.

 

Twenty-six-year-old Mynhardt confirmed on Tuesday that she planned to travel to New Zealand, a netball powerhouse, at the end of February.  However, the defender said this did not mean she was turning her back on South Africa and the Proteas. “I just want to play more netball and gain experience, and then plough that back into netball in South Africa,” she said.

Proteas' secret weapon

- When the SPAR South African netball team play their next international match, they will be armed with a special secret weapon – Dr. Sherylle Calder, the world-renowned specialist in visual performance skills and their effect on improved sporting performance. 

SPAR has joined forces with Netball South Africa and Dr. Sherylle Calder to work with the Proteas as they prepare for this year’s international programme. Mike Prentice, Group Marketing Executive, says that SPAR is very pleased to have Dr. Calder on board; “The Proteas proved that they have what it takes to compete with the top teams in the world at the World Netball Championships in Singapore last year. Dr. Calder’s pedigree speaks for itself and we believe it can give the Proteas the extra edge that they need.”
