Plenty of action on day one of the SPAR National Championships |
8 August 2011
Cape Town, South Africa- There was no slow start to the SPAR National Netball Championships, as before play had commenced, one of the top A section teams, Gauteng Central, pulled out at the last minute.
According to Netball South Africa (NSA) Executive, Professor Chipeya, coach to the side, called one of the organisers last night at around 19h20 stating without reason that his team would not be coming to the tournament. Bennie Saayman, Director Coaching NSA, said “this was surprising, and we didn’t see it coming as the team had already registered and Gauteng Central’s B and men’s teams are here.” |

SPAR awarded Women Sports ‘Sponsor of the Year’ |
|
3 Aug 2010
SPAR was awarded Women Sports ‘Sponsor of the Year’ at the GSport awards ceremony yesterday.
This is a terrific achievement and expression of the investment that they have put into their sponsorships of women’s sport in the country.
Belinda Nel from SPAR recieving the award Blanche de la Guerre, VP of netball South Africa, had this to say, "Congratulations on your well-deserved award. Hard work deserves reward, and most of us, whether it’s in business or sport, receive recognition and reward for performance and hard work, but all too often those in the background who offer the logistical support and moral guidance, are overlooked?! Well, it is comforting to know SPAR’s loyal support across the board, and in a variety of sports, has been noticed, and more pleasing, rewarded! To say it is long overdue would be an understatement. SPAR is not only a household name, but a name that is absolutely synonymous with sport. I could talk about, and mention so many sports that benefit from your involvement, but speaking only of netball, and I know I speak for every player, official and administrator when I say THANK YOU! Thank you for always being there for us, for always supporting us, for always encouraging us, and for remaining loyal to us, both as a financial and moral supporter despite results. Who knows where we would be without SPAR?? certainly not where we are today. Thank you SPAR, and once again, congratulations on a well-deserved award.
SPAR!!, QUIETLY AWARDING ALL!!!" |
